Along with the attempt to keep a sense of national pride alive, it also makes good business sense to include a UK range within your stock, And stores like John Lewis, Debenhams and Topshop (to name a few) are already on board with sections of their website now entirely dedicated to their ‘Made in Britain’ products;
Once thought to be more costly to manufacture in the UK, now with a rise in major economies such as China and India continuing to develop, working conditions are improving, and labour costs rising, and UK prices are likely to remain the same. As a result cost of sourcing overseas is rising. Several retailers and wholesale also recognize that local sourcing results in increased speed to market which is a key benefit as it allows them to react to popular trends and have new
pieces in store much quicker.
There has been a huge rise of online customers searching for different sustainability credentials such as organic, fairtrade and made in the UK. A recent survey at London fashion week showed that most people are happy to pay a little extra in store knowing their clothing is ethical as well as knowing they are contributing to a patriotic economic policy.
